Self Care Sunday- Realizing I Need A Self Care Plan

Shea Avatar

Do you have a self care plan? I am a school counselor at an elementary school and part of my role is to support the wellbeing of students and staff. One of the things that I am constantly stressing to teachers and staff is the importance of self care throughout the school day. Whether that is a little walk outside after dropping their class off at lunch, or taking a minute to listen to some calming music on a break or keeping a piece of chocolate in their desk.

I recently attended a conference that talked about ways to implement a school wide self care plan, and it became a goal of mine. However, it got me thinking that I don’t have a self care plan for myself. As a mom, wife and educator, it is so easy to place myself last on my long list of priorities.

This year has been pretty taxing for my family and I. My husband had a career change and we became a family four and lost a loved one. With the holidays quickly approaching, and the stress and anxiety that they can bring, I decided there was no better time to try and get little spots of self care in when I can. One of them being, blogging as a creative outlet/journal.

My goal, is every Sunday to turn into Self-Care Sunday, and then try to devote 10 minutes a day to something meaningful. If you are new to self care, or trying to figure out ways to fit self care into your busy schedule, join along so we can try and figure it out together.
